About

When I was in first grade, I ran the Flying Pig Kids’ Sprint (the actual name of the event is debatable). I came in second place, but I was very disappointed when I saw my medal said “9th annual.”

“I didn’t come in 9th!” I thought to myself.

The following week, I brought the medal to show and tell. But I told everyone it said, “2nd annual” because I knew I had actually gotten second place, not ninth like my medal said. Sure it was a lie, but it was a lie that (in my head) was telling the more truthful and accurate version of the story.

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I remembered this and chuckled at my silly little six-year-old brain not understanding what the word “annual” meant. This whole conundrum could’ve been avoided if my parents or my teacher had just told me the definition of “annual.” It was, in a way, a UX issue. I should have had unknown information explained to me instead of being left to assume! (Because we all know what happens when you assume.)

Now, was this my UX origin story? Not really. It was just more of a fun childhood anecdote. But it emphasizes the importance of UX in not just the digital space, but in every outlet of our lives.

So, if you want someone who knows the value of UX inside and out, through and through, medals to websites, I’m your gal.

What else would you like to know about me?
